Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe.

It borders seven other countries, including Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Ukraine and Slovakia. It has a population of nearly 10 million people and the language spoken is Hungarian.

Its capital, Budapest, is bisected by the Danube River and famed for its dramatic cityscape studded with architectural landmarks from Buda’s medieval Castle Hill and the grand neoclassical buildings to the 19th-century Chain Bridge. The country has a long, rich history, and its culture reflects Roman, Turkish, Slavic and Magyar influences.

Hungary is a democratic and developed country with an advanced high-income economy, a high quality of life and a very high standard of living. Hungary is a popular tourist destination attracting nearly 11 million tourists a year. It is home to the largest thermal water cave system and the second-largest thermal lake in the world (Lake Hévíz), the largest lake in Central Europe (Lake Balaton), and the largest natural grasslands in Europe.

  • The Hungary LDS mission was created in 1990.
  • There is only one stake and one mission in Hungary. There are approximately 5000 members.
  • The main religion is Roman Catholic, then Calvinism, Lutherans and atheism.
  • Many scientists and famous inventions came from Hungary – the Rubik’s cube, vitamin C, the ballpoint pen and the electric motor
  • They love paprika! And their food is delicious – Paprika, Goulash, and yummy pastries and desserts!
  • Hungary has a long tradition of classical music with famous composers like Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály and Franz Liszt.
  • Thermal baths – Hungary is the home to the largest thermal springs in Europe and Budapest is known as “the city of baths”.
  • The language is considered by many to be one of the hardest to learn. Hungarian language is known as Magyar and is the direct descendent of the language spoken by the Huns. It is not an Indo-European language and has only two related languages in Europe (Finnish and Estonian).
  • Founded in 897, Hungary is one of the oldest countries in Europe.
