Szeged, KFC, and American soda…kind of

Szia, szia!!

Well I made it another week… And might I say I feel like that is quite the accomplishment.

This week nothing too exciting happened… so this might be a little shorter than usual. And weirdly out of order probably!!

FUN FACTS:

They call crosswalks here zebras. And I think that that is just the funniest thing ever. And it explains Hungary perfectly.

Also, light bulbs are literally called light pears. I like that one too.

Oh yeah one more, the toilet paper here is scented…fruity, floral, lavender! everything!! The toilet paper aisle smells sooooo good. We walk up and down it for fun hahahahaha

We were tracting in the dark one night and a lady stuck her head out of the window right in front of me and it took everything in my power to not scream in her face!!!

So it has been really hard for me because almost ALL of their food is made with cream or cheese or milk. So I eat boring food and I get sick a lot. Which stinks!! I wish more than anything that I could try these amazing looking foods!! But this week we found a chocolate bar I can eat and it comes in the cutest red wrapper. And no sickness follows!! They also have this DELICIOUS Fanta here that I am obsessed with. It is elderberry and lemon flavored (I think that’s what it is called in english) but it is only here in Hungary and it is the best!!

Thursday was like the best day ever because we got to go to Szeged for zone training!!!!! And then I also got to see SISTER GERTSCH!!! I literally cried when we reunited. I miss her so much and love her with all of my heart. Her city is sooo gorgeous and it made me happy to see that not all cities here are so dark and industrial. Szeged is a college town, and it was so cool to see the beautiful belvarós (downtown) there. I love that city so much and I really would love to serve there!! We got lunch at KFC which was sooooooo good and it tasted like America and a tear or two may have come out – not gonna lie – haha! And they had an American soda store!! But there was no Diet Coke so that was a bust and I just got more of my Hungarian Fanta drink.

We are always wet and we smell like wet dogs all the time…so that’s really cool.

Church here is the cutest. We sing our little Hungarian hearts out even though there aren’t many of us. Choir is the best. There are like only us four missionaries and then four other people!! But we always sing great songs.

This week we are going on SPLITS in Buda!!! with the sister training leaders. Very exciting and I really can’t wait!! And we get to go to Szeged again to have interviews with President. We ride so many trains all over the country and it is so fun and I love it!!!!!

We have this thing called sportnap every Saturday where we play soccer with some members and we invite all the investigators. It is so fun, but I rediscovered how bad I am at soccer. Embarrassing.

Polett (an investigator, who is my fave person ever) took us out to pizza on Friday night! She ordered me a special one with no cheese and bacon all over it because she knew it was my favorite!! And she bought me a yummy Fanta!! It was the best. We normally can’t eat that good of food because it gets expensive fast and we are on a pretty tight budget. Polett only speaks Hungarian, so I can’t talk to her much but she just hugs me a lot and I always just smile at her and tell her I love her.

I feel so HUMBLED to be here in Hungary. We go into these people’s homes and they are just so tiny!! And they don’t have much food but they give it to us anyway and they are so happy to let us into their homes!! (the members at least…everyone else, not so much)

Something I think is funny is that their street lights are off on Saturday and Sunday and it feels like we are walking around in a ghost town. So we just tract all day and make our own fun. It’s so scary to cross the streets though because all the stoplights and everything are off! So you kind of just have to go for it!!

Also everyone here has the tiniest of all feet.

I heard a funny joke, that I feel is very accurate. English speaking missionaries come home scriptorians, Spanish speakers come home fluent, and Hungarian speakers just come home. Sometimes I wonder if I will even make it back alive but that is another story.

All in all, these last two weeks have BY FAR been the hardest of my whole life. I have never felt so alone, useless, rejected, and dumb. But this week I have worked so hard on changing my perspective. A day without a challenge is a day without a change. Listening to uplifting EFY music has really helped me! One of the songs says no matter how hard it may seem, I can do ALL things. There is nothing I can’t be. I am not afraid with the Savior by my side. Give me mountains to climb and rivers to cross, so that I can be better than I was before. I know that I can do all things because He is with me. And He is with you too. Remember that!!

Sok szeretettel,

Mason Nővér
